KITE Solutions s.n.c. is a SME,
established in 2003, with the goals of developing and implementing
safety and risk assessments in industrial contexts as well as automated
systems and human interfaces for improving and supporting plant
operations. The objectives of the Company are designing,
commercialising and implementing technological and software based
solutions in domains with advanced automation and safety critical human
machine systems, interfaces and interactions. At present the Company
has 9 employees, three software specialists, two engineers, two
psychologists and two statisticians. Formal contacts exist with the
Politecnico di Milano (Engineering), University of Bologna (Science of
Education) and University of Turin (Psychology) for hosting students
training.
Main expertise of KITE lies in engineering, risk assessment, cognitive sciences, and Information Technology. These skills are dedicated to the development of databases for accident investigation, to prediction, risk-management and statistical analysis of safety related situations, and to design and development of human machine interfaces for improving usability and safety of highly automated systems.
A number of industrial actions are being carried out mostly in the domain of design and development of software tools for Italian customers. In particular, KITE is collaborating with the Italian Flight Safety Committee for the development of a national incident data reporting system.
In the area of Human Factors, KITE has developed and is performing training courses in several petrochemical and aviation organisations, mainly maintenance and plant/flight operations. In the domain of Aviation KITE is enabled to held give courses according to the European Standard EASA 145 and 66 (Module 9). KITE has a specific competence in modelling human behaviour for predicting Human-Machine-Interactions and for including human aspects in Risk Assessment and in crisis management.
At research level, the Company is participating and collaborating to EU funded projects, in FWP 6. In particular, KITE is partner in: a) Projects in the area of risk prevention and management, in the fields of the aviation, automotive and rail transport; b) Projects aiming at the development a nanotechnologies for early recognition, prevention and protection from hazards in operators of high risk systems (power plants, trucks, etc.); c) Projects that exploit Human Factors and IT technologies (Virtual Reality) for improving safety and training in chemical plants.
