SELEX - Sistemi Integrati
SELEX-Sistemi Integrati is the new
business concern established to act as a centre of excellence for the
design and production of systems, services and solutions in automation,
security, transport, defence & space, information
technology. SELEX-Sistemi Integrati is about 7,000 employees
company in Finmeccanica group. SELEX-Sistemi
Integrati provides systems for surveillance and security both
physical and logical as well industrial automation systems which
monitor, supervise and control electricity, water and gas networks, or
plants for naval, offshore and high precision industrial installations.
These aspects provide SELEX-Sistemi Integrati with a deep knowledge of the domain
and context addressed by the Project. In particular, about SCADA
system, SSI has more than fifty years’ experience working in the
energy sector, with an offering that covers automation and control
systems for energy generation, transmission and distribution, gas and
water distribution networks, automatic meter reading services; in this
field SSI provides a suite of fully packaged applications tailored
for the optimal management of large HighVoltage and MediumVoltage
electrical networks, focused on the actual real time needs of
electrical operations as well as on the network wide and long time
horizontal planning. The requirements on network control systems are
growing as well as the secure, high quality and cost effective energy
distribution and management are becoming ever more important. As a
consequence, the management and network control systems are playing
more and more an increasingly key role that can be satisfied by SSI,
either at technological or at managerial level, based on its own
portfolio of SCADA systems, Energy Management Systems (EMS) and
Distribution Management Systems (DMS). In the same time, SSI is
the Italian centre of excellence for physical, logical and
communication network security; the company offers comprehensive,
integrated solutions to secure critical national, territorial, border
and network communications. Consulting, product development, system
integration, service and certification management, but also networking
and network security, plus identity and access control based on
biometric technology are just some examples of the technology skills
mastered by SSI in the security arena. SSI is able to plan,
produce and sell global solutions for the protection of the
communications and for the secure connection of data user systems with
geographical infrastructures of telecommunications. A short list of
recent projects co-funded by the EC follows: (a) Risk and Crisis
Management: FORMIDABLE, EGERIS, OASIS, ORCHESTRA, DEWS; (b) Security:
ISCAPS (PASR 2004); Grid Technology: EU-DataGrid, SpaceGRID, EGEE,
CrossGrid, The VOICE, AKoGriMo, NextGRID. Other European R&D
related activities are: ITEM - Internet Technology for Military
Communications (EUCLID); INSC - Interoperable Network for Secure
Communication (NATO Sponsored Projects).
